El suministrador de productos de seguridad electrónica Cryptomathic ha lanzado la Billetera de Nube Cryptomathic, que posibilita pagos móviles seguros a través de nube.

En lugar de emplear aplicaciones de pago que se entregan mediante chips EMV situados en tarjetas de pago o en teléfonos inteligentes, la Cloud Wallet vincula los métodos seguros y dispositivos móviles del usuario a una plataforma segura en red.

Oberthur Technologies, el segundo mayor proveedor mundial de soluciones de seguridad e identificación basado en tecnologías de tarjeta inteligente, ha anunciado hoy que la compañía se ha asociado con Visa Europe y Valitor para lanzar el primer proyecto de pago sin contacto móvil de Islandia.

Mediante la tarjeta SIM de Oberthur Technologies, que ofrece soporte integrado para NFC (Near Field Communications) para promover los pagos sin contacto móviles, los socios trabajarán con los operadores de redes móviles clave de Islandia, para seleccionar a 1.000 participantes para la adopción inicial en enero de 2012. 

iDTRONIC launches new UHF tag line

iDTRONIC, a developer of RFID hardware solutions, has announced a new line of UF-based tags intended for use in industrial applications. The tags, called Indus Tags, have been made from nylon and epoxy material to allow them to be capable of withstanding harsh environments as well as related use issues such as corrosion, impact and abrasion.

The tags, which come in three varieties and sizes depending on the needs of the user, also conform to EPC Class 1 Gen 2 and are equipped with Higgs 3 ICs from ALIEN. [end] 

Arizona State offers identity theft protection service

Arizona State University in Phoenix is providing the identity theft protection services of LifeLock to its campus community. The service is not free but, according to the school’s Web site, the fee is half the normal rate.

LifeLock, based in Tempe, Ariz., performs follow-up services with credit bureaus and related companies after the subscriber reports a suspicion that he or she may be the victim of identity theft. The company also sets fraud alerts with the credit bureaus and requests free credit reports with them, and more.

ITC installs new copy system at California university

Toronto, Canada-based ITC Systems has implemented a new library student pay for copy/print solution at the University of California at Irvine. The project involved replacing existing copier stored value readers with ITC’s online NetLink copier terminals. 

UK ID project may be at risk

If the Conservatives come into power next year they are threatening to kill the UK Identity Scheme, according to a news report at Silicon.com. The political party has urged a group of technology vendors not to sign contracts for work related to ID cards, as the party will scrap the scheme if it is elected to power.

Tips for students and protecting valuables

With laptops, iPods or other PDAs in the hands of students today, theft can become a serious problem. To help students lock down their stuff, the student newspaper at Seton Hall University, South Orange, N.J., has published a list of theft prevention ideas that students can implement.

Some of the suggestions are simply common sense, such as locking your room and making sure the windows are shut, or password protecting the log-in process for your computer. Others aren’t, such as installing tracking software on your computer, or physically locking your laptop to your desk.

Or you can do like one Seton Hall student does: He has a locked chest in his room where he stores all his valuables.
