Precise Biometrics Receives Orders for US State ID Program

Thursday, February 5, 2004

LUND, Sweden, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ – Precise Biometrics AB (publ), which develops and sells world-leading and user-friendly biometric security solutions based on fingerprints, has received two orders for an US state pilot ID program. The orders are primarily for licenses of the company’s technology for fingerprint matching on smart cards, Precise Match-on-Card(TM). The project value for Precise Biometrics is about MSEK 1,5.

Under terms of the US state pilot ID program, Precise Biometrics will supply licenses for the company’s technology for fingerprint matching on smart cards, Precise Match-on-Card(TM), for a total of 90,000 users. The orders also include a small number of combined fingerprint and smart card readers as well as technical development work.

Initial pilot programs will be deployed and run until the end of 2004. From that, the official solution for the state will be chosen and start during 2005. This rollout will assist several million users.

“We are proud to announce that our Precise Match-on-Card(TM) technology has been selected to this pilot program, the first large scale program of its kind, to our knowledge. This demonstrates that Precise Biometrics has a very competitive offering within fingerprint and smart card technology. The project is completely in line with our increased focus on licenses and customer-financed development projects,” said Christer Bergman, CEO of Precise Biometrics.

The Precise Match-on-Card(TM) fingerprint technology makes it possible to store and match fingerprints directly on a smart card. This means increased security while preserving privacy, as the user never needs to feel concerned that their fingerprint could be stolen or abused because it is never kept in a database beyond the individual’s control. Precise Match-on-Card(TM) is especially suitable for corporate ID cards, national ID cards and bank cards.

Precise Biometrics has entered a partnership agreement with smart-card technology developer Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) to bring Precise’s Match-on-Card technology to G&D’s smart cards.

The partnership will enable G&D’s clients to provide smart cards with encrypted data on the user’s fingerprint so that when a card is swiped and a fingerprint is scanned for identification purposes, the match occurs between the data stored on the card and the fingerprint swiped rather than routing data to and from a database.
