LEGIC cashless solutions splash down at Europe’s latest water park

Monday, April 26, 2004

LEGIC cashless payment technology is helping visitors to Europe’s latest water park, Livu Akvapark, to enjoy all fun of the park without having to worry about the inconvenience of carrying cash around the rides.

The largest water park in the Baltic region, and one of the most modern in Europe, Livu Akvapark logged over 10,000 visitors in its first five days of operation and uses entry systems and cash register technology provided by LEGIC partner n-tree solutions Ticketsysteme GmbH.

Located in the seaside resort of Jurmala, approximately 12 miles (20 km) from Riga, the 118,000 sq. ft (11,000 m2) Livu Akvapark features seven water slides, including the largest in Europe and the third Iargest in the world, as well as wave pools, a river, several wellness and pool areas, solariums, whirlpools and a choice of bars, restaurants and eateries.

More than a thousand visitors a day now use the water park and as each visitor arrives; they are given a unique wristband at the admission office which serves as their ticket, electronic wallet and locker key. The wristband credential contains a LEGIC contactless smart chip on which all cash transactions are stored in addition to all relevant information for entry to the park.

The wristband with its LEGIC contactless smart chip enables the visitor to access all rides and services within the water park without having to worry about carrying cash or credit cards, useful since most visitors to the park spend much of the day in swimwear. Purchases of beverages at bars, food in bistros and restaurants, use of the solariums and whirlpools and services in the wellness sector are made contact free using the wristband.

All purchases are paid for when the visitor leaves the park, the LEGIC contactless smart chip having recorded entry to all rides, food or drink purchases and use of other facilities. The system functions with both debit and credit cards, and draw-in readers collect the wristbands for re-use as visitors pass through gates when exiting the park.

The idea of cashless payment solutions is a new innovation in the Baltic region and both visitors and the local press have been enthusiastic about the innovative new concept.

Klaus Klosa, managing Director of LEGIC Identsystems, said: “Due to the large cash flow at the park, which takes place almost exclusively in digital form, security against tampering with and misuse of the contactless wristband credentials were high priorities. The high security standard of the LEGIC chip, in addition to product quality and many years of data security project experience, were decisive factors for n-tree’s decision to use LEGIC technology.”
