Sokymat and Cubit create the world's largest and most advanced RFID transponder company

Monday, November 8, 2004

The RFID transponder manufacturing companies Sokymat and Cubit Electronics announced today that Cubit joined Sokymat Group effective November 1st 2004. The new Sokymat combines Cubit¹s expertise in unique and patented technologies for advanced high frequency (HF) transponders with Sokymat’s excellence in high volume low frequency (LF) transponder manufacturing and RFID technology.

Cubit, founded in 1990 in Erfurt, Germany, is one of the pioneers of 13.56MHz RFID technology with more than 10 years of experience in transponder manufacturing. For many years the company has been a specialist in the production of HF transponders as inlays and prelams for contactless cards. This includes developing and providing customized solutions for complex challenges such as e-passport inlays. All of these solutions are based on proven and highly reliable transponder manufacturing technologies, developed in-house, that generate high quality and customized transponders.

André Ziegler, CEO of Sokymat comments, with Cubit’s integration and by adding to our know-how the expertise that Cubit has in the area of 13.56MHz RFID transponders, we acquire a competitive advantage on the side of technology, just like when we introduced the direct bonding technology for low frequency transponders. Thomas Hitzer, VP Sales for Sokymat adds, “this will allow our customers to obtain leading edge technology transponders of all frequencies at Sokymat and enable us to enter new market segments.”

The synergies generated by combining the commercial and technical expertise of both Sokymat and Cubit will strengthen ever more the role of the new Sokymat as the leading supplier of highly competitive, innovative, top-quality RFID products to the global market.

“Joining the Sokymat Group means gaining access to their resources and providing new perspectives to Cubit¹s customers,” points out Carsten Nieland, Cubit General Manager. “The new Sokymat enables us to offer our high quality HF transponders through a worldwide sales force, ensuring future growth and better customer satisfaction.”

Sokymat, the number one transponder manufacturer in the world, was founded in 1964 in Granges (Switzerland) and supplies market leaders in the areas of Access & Security, Animal ID, and Industry & Logistics applications with the most comprehensive range of RFID tags. Its two fully automated production sites in Sweden and Switzerland are capable of supplying the major share of the worldwide demand in transponders. [end]
