Biometrics: Protecting your Privacy and Identity

There’s a free white paper available on zdnet (after registering for it, of course) called Biometrics: Protecting your Privacy and Identity. It just made an appearance in Google News, but the date of the white paper appears to be from 2002.

The value of a society itself can often be measured by how much value, recognition and protection it affords the rights of man as an individual. Conversely, the strongest evidence of a society’s disdain for an individual’s rights is evidenced by its disregard or interference with an individual’s rights particularly those that could be covered by the concept of privacy.

Over time, a rather simplistic interpretation of the concept of privacy evolved as a springboard for more far-reaching interpretations, increasing in complexity as the balance to be struck between competing legal rights became ever more difficult to achieve.

BT and Hitachi Europe Ltd. announced that they are jointly designing an identity management solution for the financial services market. In this move, BT is introducing BT Unified Trading federation, a cloud-based trust utility for secure identity exchange and will incorporate Hitachi’s Finger Vein Authentication Engine and technology to offer biometric security capabilities.
