Microsoft plans RFID in 2006

After investing significantly in technology for radio frequency identification devices, Microsoft is readying its first major product, a software package designed to help companies manage the product tagging technology. Microsoft plans early next year to release the RFID Services Platform, a “middleware” product that connects the hardware that monitors RFID signals with the business software that can make sense of the information. The product is designed for businesses that want to incorporate RFID into their own systems, as well as for other software companies that want to build a product based on Microsoft’s technology.”

Identity protection provider Yubico reported a successful 2011, with increased customer growth and revenue across geographical regions.

Yubico increased its customer base by 90% to 18,000 and won new clients, including government contractors, e-governments and cloud service providers. By the end of 2011, it had more than one million users in 100 countries. Additionally, customer and revenue growth increased across Yubico’s geographical segments, with 50% of its revenue now coming from the U.S.

Microsoft’s Windows 8 will include a feature called Live ID that will enable a user to store any password and then sync it across all other trusted Windows 8 machines, according to a report on theverge.com. Since the Live ID is the only password the user will have to remember, other passwords can be set to long, complex, and unique values that would be otherwise difficult to remember.

Bedford, Mass.-based RSA announced that its SecurID can be integrated with the Microsoft Windows Active Directory Federation Services 2.0 (AD FS 2.0). This will enable organizations to provide secure user access to Office 365 cloud-based Web applications such as Microsoft Exchange technology.
