EPCGlobal Gestures Wildly in China

EPCGlobal says it has developed a super-high frequency EPC standard that will lower the entry barriers of Chinese companies hoping to use RFID. The standard drops the unit price of each RFID tag from US$0.5 to US$0.08. The code reader also declines to below US$1000. Meanwhile, China is also pressing on making its own RFID standard to protect its information security and enterprises’ interests.”

Smart Packaging Solutions (SPS) announced it is ready to deliver its to smart card products to manufacturers in China.

This, following the Chinese Government, along with People’s Bank of China (PBOC) confirmation that all banking cards in China would use smart card technologies by 2015. PBOC has already published the specification for these cards, called PBOC 2.0, which includes the certification scheme.
