Friday, August 25, 2006

Barcodes are – as Heather Duke puts it in the cult classic “Heathers” – “so ‘87.”

Which is probably why more companies are switching to the newer, hipper RFID technology (though barcoding, to be fair, has come a long way since its inception).

Take Baltimore’s Barcoding Inc., which announced this week its acquisition of RFID technology company Acuity ID LLC. The acquisition, says the company will provide a key component to to enhancing the RFID products and services already sold through Barcoding Inc.’s CaptureTech Division.

Baltimore-based Barcoding Inc. announced today that it has acquired Acuity ID LLC, an RFID technology company. This acquisition will provide a key component to enhancing the products and services already sold through its CaptureTech Division.

Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) August 25, 2006 – Baltimore-based Barcoding Inc. announced today that it has acquired Acuity ID LLC, an RFID technology company. This acquisition will provide a key component to enhancing the products and services already sold through its CaptureTech Division. CaptureTech, the division created exclusively through Barcoding Inc. to provide RFID solutions, will incorporate all the employees of Acuity ID at its current 2220 Boston St. headquarters.

Bill Paulson, the former Acuity ID president, is happy to be working with Barcoding to continue the growth of its division. “At Acuity ID we had a great idea and product. Now that we are teamed with a leader in the auto id industry, we will be able to offer the same services under the banner of Barcoding’s well earned reputation for excellence.”

The expansion of CaptureTech in North America will also enhance Barcoding’s European operations, which have been running under the name of CaptureTech in the Netherlands since 1999. CaptureTech’s emergence in the US market will give CaptureTech a global brand appeal, offering solutions on both continents.

CaptureTech’s first world-wide product launch will be the Active Shelf ™ inventory tracking system. The BGN Bookshop in the Netherlands is the first to install this revolutionary system, which keeps track of all their inventory at all times by using the shelves themselves as RFID readers. In the long run, this will make businesses much more profitable and efficient as they will not have to spend hours taking inventory.

In addition to the Active Shelf ™ product, CaptureTech also offers three RFID kits to both the European and North American markets; one for compliance, one for experimentation, and one for RFID readiness. All three kits are now available.

Jay Steinmetz, the founder and president of Barcoding Inc, is very excited about the direction of CaptureTech. “We are very pleased to be able to offer the same award winning service in the barcode industry, while at the same time being able to further establish a brand that will be identifiable with excellence in the RFID industry.”

Barcoding’s CaptureTech division is an authorized partner with Alien Technology, Cognitive Solutions, Intermec Corporation, Loftware Inc., Paxar/Monarch, Printronix, PSC Inc., SATO America Inc., Seagull Scientific, Symbol Technologies, Teklynx, Zebra Technologies Corporation, epcSolutions, Enterprise Information Systems Inc., & Systems Concepts Inc.
