smartTOUCH Delivers Biometric Identification to Doctors

Thursday, November 30, 2006

The smartCART, developed by smartTOUCH, allows hospitals and other medical facilities to assign the biometric data of doctors and other authorized personel in order to deliver necessary medicines. This system ensures that only those who are meant to get their hands on things like syringes and medicines actually do. Click through for the full story.

The smartCART(TM) Partner Plus II medical cart allows health facilities administrators to enroll authorized users including physicians, nurses or other authorized personnel directly onto the cart, to insure that only the authorized users can access medications, syringes and other controlled substances, in administering care utilizing the cart. This technology eliminates the need for keys and PIN codes, simplifies the user’s access to the cart, while providing a much higher degree of security.

“Existing methods of securing dispensing carts have inherent security issues,” comments Dr. Norm Shoenfeld, President of S & S MedCart. Lock and key solutions can be cumbersome and present security risks in the event that keys are lost or stolen. In addition, most carts that offer digital numeric keypads are often utilized ineffectively as nursing staff continue to use the standard default settings from the factory, or leave the carts unlocked because they forget the pin codes. “The collaboration between smartTOUCH and S & S MedCart addresses the concerns caused by the inefficiencies of these current methods. The culminating technology offers a more secure and convenient alternative, providing immediate, controlled access only to authorized personnel,” added Dr. Shoenfeld.

“The parent company of smartTOUCH Medical, Inc., bioMETRX, Inc, is a leader in developing embedded biometric products for both the consumer and commercial markets. bioMETRX maintains a leadership role in the field of biometrics by consistently proving that its technology and intuitive interface can be seamlessly adopted by and applied to many different products spanning both consumer and commercial markets.

S&S MedCart expects to start taking orders for the finger-activated cart in the first quarter of 2007. “Initially concentrating on integrating smartTOUCH(TM) technology into MedCart’s Partner POC product line, future versions are expected to span the complete range of MedCart’s Medication and Point of Care Carts, and introduce additional features including networked enrollment, remote tracking capabilities and communications with administrative supervisory controls, along with strict audit and proximity information added,” states Kenny Jones, National Sales Manager, S&S MedCart.
