A Canadian company, Rogue DNA, wants to make sure that passports carried by individuals were originally issued to them and are not counterfeit. The company’s authentication process can scan, encode and encrypt the 3-D structure of a predefined area of the material used in any passport, generating a profile for each passport which can protect against duplication.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia–Rogue DNA has announced the application of its nano-technology-based RDNA document authentication process to the challenge of ensuring that the passport presented by any individual was originally issued to them, and is not counterfeit.
RDNA scans, encodes, and encrypts the underlying 3-D structure of a predefined area of the actual material used in any individual passport. The randomness and enormity of the fibre pattern, together with the effect of the inks, photograph, etc, generates a profile which is totally different for each passport and cannot be replicated. By generating this profile when the passport is issued, at any time in the future the process can be repeated, the profiles compared, and the authenticity of the passport confirmed. A copy or counterfeit will not be accepted as the material will generate a totally different profile.
The RDNA system scans the area containing the two OCR lines, together with a third scan across the photograph and the holder’s name.
Because the RDNA process does not require special inks, watermarks, strips, etc to be added to the paper, it is straightforward to add to an existing passport application. Both the hardware/firmware and software have been specifically designed to be easy to integrate. Unlike all alternative protection methods, a new passport does not have to be issued when RDNA security technology is introduced. As long as the current passport can be confirmed to be genuine, it can be scanned and its profile added to the passport database on the spot.
RDNA Passport Authentication overcomes the weaknesses in current document security technologies, enabling passports and other documents to be absolutely authenticated in a totally non-invasive manner.
