What are researchers saying about the future of RFID … and is it different than what a Zipcar exec says? What about security gurus?

A ton of journalism’s coming out based on so-called “expert opinions” and RFID.

Take Doug Williams, vice president of engineering, Zipcar: “… any single company can use RFID in some way or other, whether it is at the employee level, the product level, or the asset tracking level. That said, RFID is not always necessarily the right answer. If companies have neither barcoding nor RFID they should definitely consider both.”  [end] 

Ascendent ID has launched a long-range RFID tag for automatic vehicle identification systems in applications such as gated communities, parking facilities and college campuses.

The new CompacTag comes in a small package which can be installed inside the windshield by utilizing hook-and-loop fasteners or double-sided tapes for applications requiring a removable mount.
