U. Ark. to Collaborate with Major Retail Industry Organization For RFID Projects

The University of Arkansas RFID Research Center will collaborate with a major retail industry organization and a global supply chain association to explore the feasibility and value of using RFID for item-level tagging of apparel and footwear. T

The project will generate greater inventory efficiency for retailers and product availability for consumers, according to a press release issued by the university.

Taken further, the research could lead to purchasing items without a cash register (And keep in mind: Wal-Mart headquarters are just around the corner!). [end] 

The global RFID market is expected to reach $19.3 billion during 2011 - 2014, according to a new market research report from ReportLinker. Emerging RFID applications under different verticals will also outpace other automatic identification technologies, such as bar code.
