Brooks' New Reader Comes in Sleek, Compact Form Factor

Friday, June 1, 2007

RFID system provider Brooks Automation is now offering its RFID HF reader in a compact, drama-free form factor (without complications, the vendor says).

The electronic RFID circuitry is housed in a package measuring about 11 x 7 cm, and works on a frequency of 13.56 MHz. A USB 2.0 interface simply connects the RFID reader to a PC or laptop. This compactness and simplicity make the reader especially suitable for temporary use because you can install it and pack it away again fast. [end]

California-based BridgePoint Systems has introduced its TrustPoint 3-Factor Biometric Reader for physical access control systems.

With the TrustPoint product, users enter a PIN into the reader. The reader then performs a biometric finger scan and completes a one-to-one match between it and the biometric template stored on a PIV credential, a process that takes less than two seconds. The smart card reader also verifies the templates digital signature.
