Smart card technology helps encrypt television shows in Europe

In Europe, PROMAX was granted the Invention Patent this past May by the European Patent Office for their invention: PROMAX ELECTRONICA SA. It is used for a Common Interface in measuring instruments. By using this Common Interface, a user can plug in any Conditional Access Module and with the help of a matching subscription card, also called Smart Card, he can view encrypted programs. This is a common function for most of television receivers in Europe. The TV EXPLORER II+ product which has been designed for the installation, maintenance and surveillance of broadcast, satellite and cable TV systems incorporates such an Interface.

Barcelona, 19th June 2007–PROMAX, leading manufacturer of test and measuring instruments, announces that as per May 2007 the European Patent Office has granted Invention Patent number 1480470 to PROMAX ELECTRONICA SA for the use of a Common Interface in measuring instruments.

By using the Common Interface, the user can plug in any Conditional Access Module - CAM and with the help of a matching subscription card, also called Smart Card, he can view encrypted programs. This is a common function for most of television receivers in Europe.

The TV EXPLORER II+ product which has been designed for the installation, maintenance and surveillance of broadcast, satellite and cable TV systems incorporates such an Interface.

It provides complete information about the channels available in a network and their quality. This includes:

  • Measurements
  • Spectrum analyzer
  • Signal decoding

It includes a Common Interface slot and with the support of the adequate CAM and subscription card it can decode free to air and encrypted SD MPEG-2 and show them on the screen.

The TV EXPLORER II+ is an indispensable instrument for companies operating in the field of broadcast and distribution of television and services.

A new survey from Euro Kartensysteme shows that Germans are starting to embrace the idea of contactless and NFC payments.

Out of 1,040 Germans aged 18-59, 43% responded that they would like to make contactless payments if given the opportunity, of which 58% percent would make their payments with a debit card card, 41% with a credit card and 50% with an NFC phone.

Visa has announced that more than 1 million EMV chip-enabled cards have been issued by U.S. financial institutions as of December 31, 2011.

Just 18 months ago there were no Visa-branded EMV chip cards issued in the U.S. according to Visa’s Stephanie Ericksen, who attributes the sudden growth to U.S. issuers accepting Visa’s EMV and mobile payments road map.
