Wednesday, June 20, 2007

The PIVMAN System™ has been approved by the US General Services Administration (GSA) as being compliant with the Federal Information Processing Standard 201 (FIPS 201). The PIVMAN System uses the FIPS 201 infrastructure for credential checking and is also fully functional without network connectivity. The system can display accurate information about cardholders from any federal, state or local agency that has issued credentials based on FIPS 201. PIVMAN is the fourth CoreStreet product listed on the Approved Product List.

CoreStreet’s PIVMAN System Receives FIPS 201 Approval

Only Approved Handheld Solution Designed to Check Any FIPS 201 or DOD Credential Ever Issued

CAMBRIDGE, MA, June 19, 2007–CoreStreet, a leader in software for smart credential and convergence programs, today announced that its PIVMAN System™ has been approved by the US General Services Administration (GSA) as being compliant with the Federal Information Processing Standard 201 (FIPS 201). The PIVMAN System is the first handheld solution on the Approved Products List designed to address the access management needs of homeland security and disaster response scenarios.

The GSA Approved Products List provides government agencies with a core list of products that have been tested and approved as compliant with FIPS 201. It acts as a resource for those working to comply with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12), which, when signed in 2004, set the goal of establishing a single government-wide credential that individuals could use for access to physical and IT systems. FIPS 201 lays out the technical specifications required to make HSPD-12 a reality.

“Gaining GSA approval is a major milestone for the PIVMAN System,” said Chris Broderick, chief executive officer of CoreStreet. “Government organizations around the country have been actively deploying cards and infrastructure to meet their HSPD-12 goals. Now that PIVMAN is approved, these organizations have a trusted credential-checking product designed to maximize the ROI of FIPS 201 programs.”

The PIVMAN System, which consists of software for rugged handhelds and back-end software, is the first application to fully leverage the FIPS 201 infrastructure for credential checking without network connectivity. By taking advantage of this infrastructure, the PIVMAN System can display accurate information about cardholders from any federal, state or local agency that has issued credentials based on FIPS 201. This functionality is critical for first responders to establish secure perimeters, for government security personnel to identify the status and privileges of entering individuals, and for many other organizations with credential-checking needs. The PIVMAN System is compliant with numerous FIPS 201-compliant credentials, including the First Responder Authentication Credential (FRAC) and the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), as well as the Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC).

Recently, CoreStreet’s PIVMAN System was used as part of the nationwide Winter Storm demonstration organized by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). A number of CoreStreet customers participated in this demonstration, including the District of Columbia, the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, State of Illinois, State of Maryland and other National Capital Region entities.

The PIVMAN System is the fourth approved CoreStreet product, a list that includes the CoreStreet Validation Authority, the CoreStreet Responder Appliance 2400, and the Path Builder System.

The General Services Administration (GSA) has implemented its first cloud-based physical access system at the Neal Smith Federal Building in Des Moines, Iowa.

The GSA contracted with BridgePoint Systems to utilize its TrustAlert Physical Access Control Systems. BridgePoint partnered with EmbarkIT to install the system, which replaced the GSA’s 10-year-old legacy system. The system leverages the GSA’s Kansas City, Missouri-based WAN and remote IT infrastructure, which allows the building to shrink its carbon footprint.
