Thinking About RFID in China Now That Olympics is Coming

With the Beijing Olympics just around the corner, it’s no wonder every research house on the block is thinking about the RFID industry’s potential.

Most recently, RNCOS published a report named, “RFID: Outlook China” that discusses the current and anticipated market for RFID technology in China.

The report explains the government policies and the approach government takes towards RFID. It analyses the various applications of RFID in China and the state of RFID industry in China. It also counts the ways in which the forthcoming 2008 Olympics has given a major boom to the RFID industry in China.

Google is looking to bring its contactless mobile payments service to the UK in time for the 2012 Summer Olympics, according to eWeek Europe.

Google Wallet, which enables customers to pay, redeem coupons and earn loyalty points all with a single tap of an NFC-enabled phone, could be tested in the UK as early as the first quarter of 2012. French newspaper Les Echos says the company is currently in talks with British banks, retailers and distributors.

Proxama has announced a partnership with semiconductor supplier ARM Holdings to create secure payment mechanisms for mobile handsets.

The UK-based partners say they will combine ARM’s TrustZone technology with Proxama’s Mobile Wallet to develop a “highly secure” environment for NFC-enabled mobile contactless payments and mobile internet payments.
