Friday, October 19, 2007

CoreStreet Technology has received the Smart Card Alliance’s Best of Show” at the alliance’s Emerging Technology and Innovation Showcase, marking the second year the software credential company has won the honor. The award was based on CoreStreet’s PIVPAC™ Enroller and the CoreStreet Enabled™ Kaba E-Plex 5800 Physical Access Control System.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.–CoreStreet®, a leader in software for smart credential and convergence programs, announced that its applications to support the Federal Information Processing Standard 201 (FIPS-201) have been awarded “Best of Show” at the 2007 Smart Card Alliance Conference’s Emerging Technology & Innovation Showcase. This is the second consecutive year CoreStreet has won the award.

Both CoreStreet’s PIVPAC™ Enroller and the CoreStreet Enabled™ Kaba E-Plex 5800 Physical Access Control System (PACS) are acknowledged through this award, which recognizes the most innovative technologies in the world of smart cards.

“Last year we won for our work with the PIVMAN™ System and this year for our work with locking systems,” said Sal D’Agostino, executive vice president, CoreStreet. “This kind of industry recognition helps validate the work our team has done over the past several years in creating security products that run within the FIPS-201 infrastructure.”

The PIVPAC Enroller provides a solution for Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) compliance through FIPS-201 Personal Identity Verification (PIV) cardholder enrollment, provisioning and revocation across physical access control systems. The CoreStreet Enabled Kaba E-Plex 5800 PACS is an electronic standalone locking system designed to authenticate and provide physical access using FIPS-201 compliant smart cards.

“With the massive rollout of FIPS-201 cards now underway, the security world is now ready for systems, like the CoreStreet Enabled Kaba E-Plex 5800 series,” said Michael Kincaid, general manager of Kaba Access Control. “Locking systems like this are a key step on the way to a single, converged security infrastructure and industry recognition like that from the Smart Card Alliance shows just how ready the industry is to embrace this fact.”

The Smart Card Alliance is a not-for-profit association comprised of leaders in the smart card and security industry. Its goal is to stimulate the understanding, adoption, use and widespread application of smart card technology.

“Smart cards are on the verge of entering widespread use in government and industry and the Smart Card Alliance is dedicated to helping showcase the best of the best,” said Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the Smart Card Alliance. “This year, our conference attendees voted for those technologies that demonstrated the most innovation. CoreStreet’s PIVPAC Enroller and Kaba’s locking system technologies are great examples of what government and industry are looking for: new, critical applications for their deployed smart cards.”

The CoreStreet PIVPAC Enroller (Powered by Quantum Secure);

  • Enables FIPS-201-compliant credential enrollment into PACS systems;
  • Works with numerous existing PACS, supports multi-vendor PACS environments;
  • Automates revocation of access privileges to coincide with revocation of the identity credentials (digital certificate); and
  • Provides easy migration for existing PACS and operational efficiency and reduces administrative costs by centralizing access control-related processes across an entire enterprise.

The CoreStreet Enabled Kaba E-Plex 5800 Physical Access Control System

  • Complies with FIPS-201 and HSPD-12;
  • Lock supports all types of FIPS-201 compliant cards including: the First Responder Authentication Credential (FRAC) used by emergency service workers, Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) used by transportation workers, the new version of the Common Access Card (CAC) used by the Department of Defense and other compliant cards;
  • In addition to supporting all FIPS-201 compliant ID cards, the lock also supports the Phillips DESFire smart RFID cards for any valid users who have not been issued FIPS-201 cards; and
  • The E-Plex 5800 lock is a dual credential lock that can be programmed to work with either smart card-only or dual credential modes based on your security requirements and programmed access schedules. Dual credential utilizes PIN, followed by presentation of smart card.
