Pay for parking with your smart card instead of change

Residents of Grand Junction, Colorado will not have to search for change to feed the meter anymore. The City has implemented a rechargeable smart card system for parking downtown. A parking garage will feature a pay-by-space system, where visitors can use change, a credit card or a rechargeable “smart” card to pay for their space at one of three pay stations. The prepaid card can be purchased at City Hall. Manual parking meters will be replaced with electronic meters and will accept change and the prepaid “smart” cards.

Parkmobile USA has announced that its mobile payments solution is now available on all parking meters throughout Oakland, Calif.

Oakland drivers can now pay for parking with their mobile phone using the Parkmobile app on iPhone, Android, Windows 7, and Blackberry smart phones anywhere in the city. Users can also pay for parking by tapping their NFC phone against a Parkmobile NFC-enabled sticker on the meter.
