Sagem Sécurité and Psion Teklogix partner on biometrics

A new biometric mobile computing security device from Sagem Sécurité and Psion Teklogix called MorphoCheck will allow authentication of ID documents, including e-passports, ID cards and drivers licenses. It is being described as an autonomous, lightweight multimodal terminal, capable of scanning 2D barcodes by reading the MRZ band via an OCR (optical character recognition) swipe reader, or reading embedded electronic chips. It can also send the information to a remote central server.

Envoy Data Corporation announced a partnership with biometrics developer Zvetco Biometrics that will see Envoy offering Zvetco’s fingerprint scanners to its clients.

The biometric readers now carried by Envoy have been designed with both convenience and performance in mind for use in the enterprise, financial, health care, gaming and retail industries. The UK Border Agency has announced intentions to require applicants applying for six-month stays from outside the European Economic Area to use biometric residency permits starting at the end of February 2012, according to an HR Magazine article.

In an effort to streamline passenger security, Jakarta, Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport has opened the country’s first biometric immigration gate.

Fingerprint biometric identification provider BIO-key International, Inc. and Oakwell Engineering Limited partnered to create the new gate, designed for use by passengers with electronic passports. Passengers submit their e-passports and authenticate with a fingerprint.
