Sony unveils TransferJet

Sony's TransferJet in actionSony unveiled a new proprietary Near Field Communication technology called TransferJet at the Consumer Electronics Show this past weekend. TransferJet can allow high-speed wireless data transfer and is Sony’s response to UWB (ultra-wide band) technology. For instance it can connect a camcorder to a television simply by placing the camcorder on top of this wireless unit. Sony plans to commercialize TransferJet-based products in 2009. MasterCard has certified a slew of NFC-enabled smart phones for use with MasterCard PayPass contactless payment technology.

Newly certified devices include: BlackBerry Bold 9790, BlackBerry Curve 9380, HTC One X, Intel Smartphone Reference Device, LG Viper 4G LTE, LG Optimus Elite, Nokia 603, Nokia Lumia 610 NFC, Samsung Wave Y, Samsung Galaxy mini 2, Samsung Galaxy S Advance, Samsung Galaxy Nexus (GT-i9250), Sony Xperia S, Sony Xperia P and Sony Xperia sola.

Sony has revealed its latest Xperia smart phone, the NFC-enabled Xperia Sola.

Slated for global launch in the second quarter of 2012, the Android 4.0-powered Sola comes equipped with Xperia SmartTags, enabling consumers to change their smartphone’s settings and applications with a simple tap against an NFC token.

Sony has revealed its new NFC-enabled Xperia S smart phone at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, according to ITProPortal.

The inaugural handset in Sony’s new line of NXT smart phones (as in “NeXT” generation), the Xperia S features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 12MP camera, HDMI connection, 32GB of internal flash storage space and a 4.3-inch 720 x 1280 pixel display in addition to NFC.

Sony has announced that its NFC-enabled Xperia S smart phone will be available in Canada by the end of week.

According to Sony, a limited number of Xperia S phones will be available at Sony Stores across Canada beginning April 17. Canadians can purchase their Xperia S, which is compatible with the Rogers wireless network, directly at the Sony Store.

LG has announced a new NFC-enabled smart phone for the Korean market, the Optimus LTE Tag.

According to LG, the Optimus Tag features a new app called Tag+ that enables the handset to communicate with programmable NFC stickers, much like Sony’s Smart Tags.
