Will Worldwide RFID Markets Explode?

If what international research house Gartner says is true, yes.

Gartner Inc. just laid out predictions that worldwide revenue for RFID technology will increase 31 percent over last year, and exceed $1.2 billion this year.

Global RFID revenue in 2007 hit $917.3 million, and it will reach $3.5 billion by 2012, Gartner analysts predicted in a report released yesterday [Computerworld]. [end] 

The Open Standard for Public Transport (OSPT) Alliance announced that austriamicrosystems has joined as a full member.

Since joining the OSPT Alliance, austriamicrosystems will have access to the CIPURSE open standard specification, leveraging its experience into embedded systems for mobile fare collection applications.
