Datastrip’s 2D symbology available online for public review

Tuesday, March 4, 2008

Pennsylvania-based Datastrip has announced that the Public Review Draft of the International Symbology Specification – Datastrip 2D - is online.

The specification was developed by AIM Global’s Technical Symbology Committee. Datastrip 2D is a variable-size, variable-density two-dimensional symbology. The bar code can encode text, binary and biometric data, and it includes Reed-Solomon error detection and erasure correction algorithms.

Datastrip 2D is designed to be printed on flat surfaces such as ID cards, driver’s licenses and passports that require machine-readable biometric data. The Public Review process ends March 20, 2008. [end]

Southern Railway announced it is bringing its smart card scheme, called “the key,” to stations between Brighton and Bexhill/Eastboard via Lewes.

The new smart card technology is environmentally friendly - an alternative to paper tickets - while also making it easier and quicker for passengers to buy and use tickets. The smart card is reusable and can be recharged again and again with weekly and monthly season tickets.
