Boeing awards ImageWare Systems new biometric contract

ImageWare® Systems, headquartered in San Diego, California received a one-year, multiple award initial task order contract valued in excess of $100,000 from Boeing Integrated Defense Systems unit. ImageWare will support Boeing customers and help drive awareness of systems capabilities and solutions. In addition, ImageWare will integrate its IWS™ Mediator™ solutions, including two-way speech to speech and multilingual chat, into Boeing’s open architecture program environments, which include its Command and Control Middleware and Information Assurance applications. [end] 

Multimodal biometric security provider ImageWare Systems Inc. has released version 2.0 of its Biometric Engine (BE) physical security identification product.

This product is designed for airports, seaports and other critical points-of-access for government and private enterprises. This update takes into account the SAFE Port Act, which requires foreign shippers to secure cargo being shipped to the U.S. and ensure the identity of those loading it. Shippers must manage this by 2013.

The Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) has awarded a 10-year contract to 3M Cogent to provide high-resolution LiveScan booking systems and biometric identification products, using tenprint and palm print scans in accordance with the HKPF’s ANSI/NIST standard.

The Boeing Company has said it plans to develop its own smart phone this year, writes Redorbit.com.

The Android phone is expected to have high-security features including encryption, biometrics and physical locks that make it ideal for military and government use in defense and intelligence. Boeing believes the phone could be targeted toward commercial users as well.

The Department of Defense’s Biometrics Identity Management Agency (BIMA) has exercised the second option year with modifications on the Ideal Innovations Inc. (I-3) Technology Management task order under the Biometrics Operations and Support Services – Unrestricted (BOSS-U) contract. The cumulative value of the contract is now $30.5 million.
