GE Security announced the state of Florida has deployed GE’s Identity Commander solution to all 12 deep water seaports and its Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Tallahassee headquarters as the basis for an operational transit worker identity card system.

In tandem with biometric identity management from San Diego-based ImageWare Systems, Identity Commander is biometric-based in order to be compliant with anticipated federal credentialing programs. GE’s solution delivers biometric enrollment, credential personalization and issuance capabilities.

The statewide solution employs fixed and mobile card readers that have proven to be a challenge elsewhere. Identity Commander conforms to PIV I & II Federal Information Processing Standard 201 (FIPS 201) and the State of Florida’s Uniform Port Access Credential (FUPAC) law (Florida Statute s311.125).

ImageWare enhances identity management biometrics for points-of-access

Multimodal biometric security provider ImageWare Systems Inc. has released version 2.0 of its Biometric Engine (BE) physical security identification product.

This product is designed for airports, seaports and other critical points-of-access for government and private enterprises. This update takes into account the SAFE Port Act, which requires foreign shippers to secure cargo being shipped to the U.S. and ensure the identity of those loading it. Shippers must manage this by 2013.

LAWA places order from ImageWare

ImageWare Systems announced that the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), an agency that oversees Los Angeles International (LAX) airport, LA/Ontario International airport and Van Nuys airport, has placed an order for a number of biometric identity management and credentialing solutions.

3M Cogent solution approved for TWIC

3M Cogent announced that it’s biometric access control readers have passed the United States Transportation Security Administration’s Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Initial Capability Evaluation (ICE) assessment.

NJ Transit reports 'overwhelming' success with Google Wallet

New Jersey Transit’s use of NFC payments with Google Wallet has been an “overwhelming and resounding success,” according to NJ Transit spokesman John Durson.

Introduced on the NJ Transit network in October 2011, Google Wallet enables riders to purchase tickets with the tap of an NFC-enabled phone at New York Penn Station, Newark Liberty Airport’s rail station and on 7 city bus lines.

Ottawa adopts NFC parking payments from PayByPhone

PayByPhone has announced that the city of Ottawa is now offering an NFC payments option on parking meters.

According to PayByPhone, every Pay & Display machine in Ottawa has been outfitted with an NFC-enabled PayByPhone sticker, which users can tap with an NFC phone to set up and pay for parking time.
