Sagem Sécurité to coordinate EU biometrics and cryptography research project

Sagem Sécurité has been chosen to coordinate the European research project TURBINE (TrUsted Revocable Biometric IdeNtitiEs) within the scope of the European Union’s 7th Research & Development Framework Program. Lasting three years, this project aims to develop advanced digital identity solutions, combining automatic fingerprint recognition and innovative cryptographic techniques. Research efforts will focus on burying secret information inside a description of fingerprints, so that the secret can only be revealed by the person with the fingerprints. [end] 

GoldKey Security Corporation has announced that is will support two-factor authentication for Cisco’s upcoming release of its AnyConnect Secure Mobility VPN Client.

GoldKey’s security tokens with Elliptic Curve Cryptography capabilities can be used with the VPN client’s encryption of IP traffic based on the Suite B set of encryption algorithms designated by the National Security Agency (NSA) for Department of Defense communications.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is recommending the elimination of password usage in favor of biometrical recognition, reports Government Computer News.

DARPA said on its Active Authentication site that complex passwords are too cumbersome to create, remember and manage, nor do active sessions have the capability to recognize whether the current user is the one who was originally authenticated.
