All Barclaycard customers will be contactless by 2011

Barclaycard will issue more than one million contactless cards this year reports www.computing.co.uk

“We are very committed to contactless payments and this is only the start,” Barclaycard head of contactless payments James McDonald told Computing.

OnePulse, the three-in-one card featuring Oyster travelcard, credit and contactless payment, was launched in London last September along with in-store technology OneTouch.


Following the successful introduction of the combined cards, Barclaycard Business began a countrywide rollout of contactless technology. So far, more than 4,000 retail outlets across the UK are able to accept the touch-and-go” system and the company expects to have 20,000 businesses under its network by year-end.

Barclaycard launched a new stick-on credit card application that will enable millions of its Visa cardholders to make wave-and-pay purchases using their mobile phone.

A third of the size of a normal card, Barclaycard PayTag can be stuck to the back of any mobile phone. Once attached, it can be used to make payments of £15 and under, rising to £20 in June, by simply being held over a contactless payment terminal.

American Express has announced that it is adding its Consumer, Open Small Business and Serve cards to the Isis Mobile Wallet platform.

American Express now joins Chase, Capitol One and BarclayCard in enabling its card holders to make NFC payments and collect rewards using an Isis-enabled mobile phone.

New Jersey Transit’s use of NFC payments with Google Wallet has been an “overwhelming and resounding success,” according to NJ Transit spokesman John Durson.

Introduced on the NJ Transit network in October 2011, Google Wallet enables riders to purchase tickets with the tap of an NFC-enabled phone at New York Penn Station, Newark Liberty Airport’s rail station and on 7 city bus lines.

The NEC Group has inked a five-year partnership deal with payment provider Barclaycard, according to Birmingham Post.

The partnership will see Barclaycard become the official payment partner of the NEC’s online ticketing operation, The Ticket Factory, and bring payment acceptance using contactless technology to the National Indoor Arena (NIA) in the center of Birmingham, UK.
