Innovative Card Solutions’ new card has a chip that generates on single-use passcode using an algorithm. It can be used as an ATM or credit card, a building access card or for network access through the ActivID Card Management System.

When you need to use the card, press on its switch and the PKI chip will run an algorithm that generates a one-time passcode for you to use. The Smart DisplayCard’s built-in PKI chip enables cardholders to use PKI login, e-mail encryption and digital signature capabilities. The Smart DisplayCard meets both Underwriters Laboratories and ISO specifications, and is rugged. VeriSign’s recently announced VIP solution uses InCard’s product as its VIP Credential. [end] 

A Japanese researcher has developed a biometric that could be used to protect a car from theft: butt biometrics, according to verge.com.

Shigeomi Koshimizu, an associate professor at the Advanced Institute of Industrial Technology in Tokyo has developed the technology. A seat pressure map to generates 39 indices that are used to uniquely identify a subject’s posterior. Results so far have been encouraging, with average false reject rates of 2.2% and false accept rates of 1.1%.

The Bay Area’s Clipper transit fare collection program has reached the millionth milestone - 1 million active cards in circulation.

As of Dec. 16, there were 1,000,606 active Clipper cards in use, nearly a 30% increase from the 778,197 active cards in circulation six months ago, and a 142% increase from the 413,616 active cards in circulation a year ago.

New research from the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) on UK consumer attitudes towards m-commerce has revealed wider acceptance of the service, with the average mobile transaction jumping from £12.20 in 2010 to 2011 in £17.49, according to Mobile Marketing.

The Dutch Ministry of Defense (MoD) has chosen Identive’s SmartFold smart card readers to provide secure remote network access for its employees.

The agency has a lot of restricted and sensitive data that has particular management requirements. The MoD felt that the Identive contact smart card reader would provide the desired level of security, yet be flexible enough to incorporate into the existing network security infrastructure.

The UK’s YESpay International and YES-wallet.com have teamed up to build an NFC-enabled cloud-based mobile payments platform.

By integrating the YES-wallet Pouch digital wallet with YESpay EMBOSS payment service, the companies will provide a platform that encompasses e-Money, pre-paid and gift-card payments based on Visa PayWave and MasterCard PayPass contactless standards.
