VeriFone introduces terminal

Thursday, April 17, 2008

VeriFone has announced a new Vx 810 DUET, a 2-in-1 payment system that incorporates a secure hand-held device tethered to a clerk-facing base unit. The Vx 810 DUET’s base features the same receipt printing and enhanced communications capabilities of traditional VeriFone countertop systems, including the ability to accept contactless payments, while providing a cradle for the hand-held unit that enables it to double as the clerk’s user interface.

The Vx 810 DUET includes a Secure Digital Input Output (SDIO) port to support add-on components. A field upgradeable contactless payment module will provide merchants and banks a cost-effective means to support any form of contactless payment whether presented via card, fob or NFC-enabled mobile device, the Web site reports. [end]

VeriFone Systems has revealed a new counter top payment terminal that accepts magnetic stripe, EMV chip, contactless card and NFC mobile transactions.

According to VeriFone, the “H5000” is designed to succeed the Artema Hybrid terminal from Hypercom, which Verifone acquired in August. The device features one card reader slot that accommodates all card types - EMV chip, contactless and magnetic stripe - and an integrated NFC reader for mobile payments and value added services. Other features include a PIN pad, color screen, 32-bit ARM11 400MHz processor, graphical user interface and optional printer.
