The Department of Defense has signed the first military enlistment contract using biometric technology at the Baltimore Military Entrance Processing Station, located at Fort Meade, Md.

The biometric will be used to verify the individual’s identity and track his or her progress through the qualification process: aptitude testing, medical screening, background check, enlistment contracting and departure for travel to initial entry training. The successful implementation of e-Security is the product of a six-year effort by USMEPCOM and the project’s prime contractor, Northrop Grumman.

Australian gov't. awards smart card contract to MaxSec

MaxSec Group has been awarded a $1.3 million smart card contract with the Commonwealth of Australia, according to Proactive Investors Australia.

The contract, honored through MaxSec’s wholly owned entity BQT solutions, includes the supply of 6,000 smart card readers to the Australian Government by the end of June 2012.

Massachusetts-based Aware Inc. has announced it’s won three contracts to provide biometrics software and services for three large-scale border management systems in Europe, the Middle East and North America.

UK agency taps Gemalto for citizen IDs

Gemalto announced that it has been awarded a multi-year contract from the UK’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency to supply 40 to 80 million secure Sealys documents for a variety of official permits. These include digital tachograph cards, the next generation of polycarbonate driver’s licenses, and biometric residence permits, in a multi-year contract.

DoD's BIMA exercises modified second option year on BOSS-U contract

The Department of Defense’s Biometrics Identity Management Agency (BIMA) has exercised the second option year with modifications on the Ideal Innovations Inc. (I-3) Technology Management task order under the Biometrics Operations and Support Services – Unrestricted (BOSS-U) contract. The cumulative value of the contract is now $30.5 million.

Keyboard, biometric reader GSA approved

Key Source International announced GSA approval for it’s biometric keyboard and stand-alone biometric pod. KSI products are approved under FIPS 201 for Federal Employees and civilian contractors.
