Routeware introduces RFID system for waste verification

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

Routeware, an Oregon-based designer and manufacturer of hardware and software for the waste industry, has introduced an RFID verification system for waste and recycling haulers.

The system, based on Texas Instruments-provided technology, will provide real-time digital reporting to hauling companies. RFID tags on trash containers communicate with readers on trash trucks, which are in turn linked to the main office of the hauler. The enhanced data flow allows haulers to provide improved customer service and responsiveness, while its automated nature frees drivers to concentrate on their routes and to operate more efficiently and safely.

“Waste industry managers, operators, dispatchers and drivers have told us that RFID is their number-one priority, and now they’ve got it. Looking ahead, we believe this technology will help transform the industry from utility provider to value creator,” said Robert DeKoning, CEO at Routeware. [end]
