Port workers in Portsmouth, N.H. began enrollment for the Transportation Worker Identification Credential last week, according to Seacoastonline.com. To apply for the TWIC workers must present two forms of identification and submit their fingerprints for a background check. The IDs will be issued six to eight weeks after enrollment.

ImageWare enhances identity management biometrics for points-of-access

Multimodal biometric security provider ImageWare Systems Inc. has released version 2.0 of its Biometric Engine (BE) physical security identification product.

This product is designed for airports, seaports and other critical points-of-access for government and private enterprises. This update takes into account the SAFE Port Act, which requires foreign shippers to secure cargo being shipped to the U.S. and ensure the identity of those loading it. Shippers must manage this by 2013.

TSA consolidates enrollment services

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration has opted to consolidate its multiple enrollment and registration programs into one Universal Enrollment Service. It has granted MorphoTrust USA a five-year, $248 million contract for the enrollment services.

3M Cogent solution approved for TWIC

3M Cogent announced that it’s biometric access control readers have passed the United States Transportation Security Administration’s Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Initial Capability Evaluation (ICE) assessment.

NJ Transit reports 'overwhelming' success with Google Wallet

New Jersey Transit’s use of NFC payments with Google Wallet has been an “overwhelming and resounding success,” according to NJ Transit spokesman John Durson.

Introduced on the NJ Transit network in October 2011, Google Wallet enables riders to purchase tickets with the tap of an NFC-enabled phone at New York Penn Station, Newark Liberty Airport’s rail station and on 7 city bus lines.

HID Global, announced the availability of its pivCLASS Government Solutions portfolio, an product suite that enables the U.S. federal government, government contractors and other facilities to comply with federal identity mandates without having to replace their existing physical access control system (PACS).

HID’s pivCLASS is GSA approved

HID Global announced that the company’s pivCLASS readers and authentication systems have achieved compliance with the U.S. General Services Administration Evaluation Program for certifying that products meet FIPS 201 federal identity specifications.
