GlobeRanger makes edge processes a SNAP

Wednesday, June 4, 2008

Dallas-based GlobeRanger has announced its Smart Network Appliance Product (SNAP), designed to bundle software for RFID network-edge data processing, workflows, and applications into hardware. SNAP is based on the company’s iMotion platform but does not run from a central server.

According to GlobeRanger representatives, SNAP is an improvement over tradition server-oriented appliance products, which work well for deployment at individual sites but not as well in large, multi-site locations. SNAP is intended to be smaller, lighter solution easily deployed to provide a consistent integrated system at multiple locations.

SNAP supports multiple network protocols and with six ports to integrate RFID readers and other devices. It can support multiple RFID technologies and protocols, and can be managed remotely. The company’s target market for SNAP is a location with multiple deployments of a small number of input devices, consistent workflow and low levels of tech support, such as retail outlets or smaller satellite warehouses. [end]

The Richardson Police Department in Texas has deployed an RFID asset management system powered by GlobeRanger’s GR AWARE application.

The RPD solution runs on GlobeRanger’s iMotion platform which enables data capture from current and the next generation of devices. This allows the department to electronically scan and catalog inventory, and obtain real-time visibility on critical assets ranging from weapons and uniforms to radars and cell phones.
