Pearson chooses Fujitsu for test-taker verification

Thursday, July 24, 2008

To provide the new devices and infrastructure for their new biometric authentication of test-takers, Pearson VUE, a company responsible for a number of standardized testing for regulatory and certification boards, has tapped Fujitsu, a biometrics technology developer based out of Tokyo.

Fujitsu will be implementing their PalmSecure palm vein scanner for the testing centers as a means of further identification of test-takers.

The PalmSecure system works by taking an infra-red picture of a user’s palm which can then map out the structure of the veins in their palm; a characteristic that is unique to each individual. The people at Pearson feel that this solution works best for them as it is one of the most accurate and efficient solution while also not being very invasive.

The new system will first be implemented for use with the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) and begin with sixteen institutions in both Korea and India, with an eventual world-wide implementation in more than 400 facilities in 107 countries. [end]
