Florida student test scores online in security breach

Some 34,000 students from one Florida school district who were using an online testing program to study for the state’s annual assessment test had their answers inadvertently posted to the Web. What’s worse is that the posting also included the students’ personal information, such as their state ID numbers which, according to this story in the Fort Myers News-Press, are nearly identical to their Social Security number.

Superintendent Lori White, with the Sarasota school district, said students in second through 10th grade were involved in the breach which apparently occurred as the test preparation company moved its Web hosting to a new provider. In addition to Sarasota, Fairfax County, Va., also had student information posted online.
