BSI releases update of biometric standards list

Biometrics Services International has announced the release of their newest upgrade to the list of published and emerging biometric standards. The report includes 15 new or updated standards bringing the total in the list to 79. In addition to the 15 new standards there are 70 that are in the works for future list upgrades.

Among the biometric areas that will see new standards are biometric visas, travel document machines, identity assurance accessible via the Web, as well as standards for testing and sharing information. [end] 

Research In Motion has officially launched BlackBerry 7.1 OS, the latest upgrade to its smart phone operating system.

Available today on BlackBerry App World, BlackBerry 7.1 offers a new content sharing application for NFC phone users called “BlackBerry Tag.” According to RIM, the app allows users to swap contact info, documents, photos, URLs, and invite friends to BBM by simply tapping their NFC-enabled handsets together.

SecuGen announced that the General Services Administration added two of its fingerprint scanners to the FIPS 201 Evaluation Program Approved Products list.

The solutions, which are both compliant with the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Personal Identity Verification FIPS 201 standard, are the Hamster IV v2 fingerprint reader and ID-USB SC/PIV v2 combined fingerprint and smart card reader.

Neurotechnology has announced the release of two new software development kits (SDKs) from their MegaMatcher line of offerings. The two new releases, MegaMatcher 4.2 and MegaMatcher On Card 3.0, both offer support for fingerprint, facial and iris recognition to be used either individually or as a multi-factor solution by Neurotechnology’s VeriFinger 6.4, VeriLook 5.1 and VeriEye identification engines, respectively.
