GlobalPlatform offers device that supports requirements of OMTP

GlobalPlatform, a developer of smart card technology, has announced that their GlobalPlatform Device/Small Terminal Interoperability Platform (GPD/STIP) version 2.3 meets the requirements of Open Mobile Terminal Platform’s (OMTP) mobile device execution document, Advanced Trusted Environment. GPD/STIP is a suite of documents that can be downloaded from the international smart card specification Web site.


OMTP released the list of recommendations in an effort to create standards to ensure consistency, interoperability and longevity in technology as the mobile device industry continues to grow. GlobalPlatform sees this move as a necessary one, as the mobile device market becomes increasingly complicated, to help secure mobile device infrastructure as more new technology develops. [end] 

Shanghai Fudan Microelectronics Group has joined GlobalPlatform as the organization’s latest Observer Member.

The Chinese chip design company focuses on the development and manufacture of application-specific secure chips across multiple sectors, including automotive, mobile/telecoms and payment. In joining GlobalPlatform, Shanghai Fudan will bring a its knowledge and experience in the manufacture of secure chips for specific functions, further strengthening the organization’s membership base of chip manufacturers.

GlobalPlatform has launched the first in a series of online guides that will explain in simple terms the association’s current projects and technologies.

Up now on the GlobalPlatform Web site, the first guide covers Trusted Execution Environments (TEE), or the hardware and software on a mobile device that ensures that sensitive data is stored, processed and protected.

GlobalPlatform published an implementation guideline for smart card-based government identity services. This document, called Card ID Configuration v. 1.0, is the first part in GlobalPlatform’s plan to become the trusted source for government issuing authorities in this segment.

NFC software provider Sequent Software has joined GlobalPlatform as an Observer Member.

Sequent’s membership enables it to contribute to specifications that ensure the interoperability of secure contactless services. The company, which provides a neutral software and services platform for the developing NFC market, plans to participate in the formation of business requirements and the development of best practices in different industry sectors, according to GP.

GlobalPlatform launched its latest specifications for the Trusted Execution Environment (TEE).

The organization has released two new specifications primarily for use by software developers working within the TEE space. The “TEE Systems Architecture v1.0” explains the hardware and software architectures behind the TEE, while the “TEE Internal API Specification v1.0” specifies how to develop trusted applications.
