TranZfinity proposes to accelerate merchant, consumer NFC adoption

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Carlsbad, Calif.-based TranZfinity has unveiled its Secure-Z global services platform and Secure-ME consumer technology that combines contactless, NFC, USB and secure storage into a single solution. Together, they are expected to encourage merchant and consumer acceptance of NFC technology.

TranZfinity proposes to help NFC ecosystem players – bank card issuers, mobile network operators, mobile handset manufacturers, transportation systems, merchants and advertisers - leap from pilots into broader commercial rollouts.

The Secure-ME solutions can be used in either an online or an offline mode. Future products can be directly attached or otherwise integrated to a mobile phone, and enable the use of NFC applications by emulating, for example, the same processes contactless card issuers use today.

With the addition of the Secure-ME solution, and without having to wait for NFC enabled phones, consumers can enable existing mobile phones to pay for purchases at retail locations, enter the subway, or even download media/content onto their handsets. In addition, consumers can also store credit card information, private documents, passwords and any digital media in a highly-secure manner.

“The Secure-ME solution doubles as a secure contactless/NFC reader for physical access transactions, and as a USB dongle for secure online access. All of this is included in one small, portable package,” said Jesse Adams, TranZfinity’s chairman and chief operating officer.

The Secure-Z platform enables financial institutions, retailers, enterprises, governments, and value-add service providers to authenticate content, manage trusted relationships and communicate securely with users.

The launch of the Secure-Z platform will include an online digital media marketplace to enhance the NFC experience for financial institutions, retailers, transport operators and their customers through this highly secure service delivery platform. Through the use of TranZfinity’s digital media marketplace, consumers will have the option to manage applications and content directly from their PC USB ports or Over-The-Air (OTA) through their mobile phones.

“Our solutions provide a very simple, yet extremely effective answer to the ‘chicken and the egg’ dilemma faced by the NFC payment ecosystem today,” said TranZfinity CEO Jeff Miles. “Instead of waiting for NFC technology to come to the phone, TranZfinity has developed a solution that is portable between handsets, and a gateway to help users manage their content. Besides eliminating the wait for a complete NFC infrastructure, we are providing a way for card issuers, transport operators and retailers to capitalize on all the benefits promised to consumers. For example, they can partner with advertisers through our digital media marketplace to deliver targeted content directly to the consumer’s mobile phone.” [end]
