Barclaycard highlights convenience message

Barclaycard’s new ad strategy will headline convenience, replacing its existing campaign in which celebrities used the card to evade sticky situations.

The ads, which will also be shown in movie theaters, feature an office worker taking off his clothes and getting into a water slide, which he rides on his commute home. During his journey, the commuter uses a contactless Barclaycard to tap his way through subway system gates and buy groceries.

McDonald’s and Barclaycard are gearing up to launch NFC awareness campaigns aimed at spurring the adoption of contactless payment technology, according to MarketingWeek.

Barclaycard, which holds the highest share (71%) of the UK contactless market, reports that contactless transactions have doubled in the last year, but are still “nowhere near” where they want to be, according to Tom Gregory, Barclaycard’s head of digital payments.
