Roanoke College's cards welcomed at more off-campus locations

A growing number of Salem, Va. businesses have signed up to give Roanoke College students armed with their student ID the opportunity to buy gas or food or get their prescriptions filled as long as there’s cash available on the card.

“I think it’s a good thing because it allows parents to regulate where their students are spending money off-campus,” commented one student. The cashless shopping initiative is made possible by the software capabilities of the Blackboard program students have been using for several years.

The OneCard from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, can now be used at three off-campus restaurants with more merchants set to join.

“It’s a project we’ve been working on for some time now and its finally coming to fruition,” said OneCard Coordinator Chris Bird.
