MDI providing security system for Army base

MDI Inc. announced that its MDI Security Systems division was awarded a security contract and multiple product orders totaling $606,000 from a Department of Defense Army base facility.

The total sale includes security products, technical integration and services. The MDI System and all component products required for this project are scheduled for shipment during the month of November.


MDI’s solution will deliver complete video integration capabilities to the client’s security managers and empower compliance with HSPD-12 and FIPS-201 mandates. The contract consists of two project phases. In the first project, MDI will modernize the Integrated Commercial Intrusion Detection System II physical security system. In the second project, MDI will install upgraded servers, configure the databases and transition the information systems.

With more than 50,000 soldiers, 12,000 civilian employees and a combination of 23 battalions, brigades, companies, commands and divisions on base, MDI’s customer is one of the largest and military posts in the world. The facility trains, sustains, mobilizes, and deploys troops to conduct global, full spectrum operations in support of U.S. military strategy. [end] 

The Transportation Security Administration announced that it’s expanding the PreCheck screening program that enables prescreened individuals expedited passage through airport security.

TSA Administrator John S. Pistole made the announcement at the Washington Press Club. Thus far PreCheck has been rolled out at nine airports and 460,000 travelers have gone through the screening process. PreCheck enables travelers to no longer remove their shoes or light jacket and allows them to keep their laptop in its case and their 3-1-1 compliant bag in a carry-on.

Multimodal biometric security provider ImageWare Systems Inc. has released version 2.0 of its Biometric Engine (BE) physical security identification product.

This product is designed for airports, seaports and other critical points-of-access for government and private enterprises. This update takes into account the SAFE Port Act, which requires foreign shippers to secure cargo being shipped to the U.S. and ensure the identity of those loading it. Shippers must manage this by 2013.

The U.S. Army has decided to extend it smart card pilot program for Army spouses and retirees. The pilot, which began in October 2011, now runs through September.
