Athena Smartcard Solutions launches new logical access product

Athena Smartcard Solutions newsest addition to its growing range of smart card products is the ASEDrive IIIe CL smart card reader.

Packaged in a black enclosure, the ASEDrive IIIe CL utilizes a 13.56MHz RFID interface conforming to ISO 14443 A & B standards. The reader was designed to support desktop applications such as Smart Card Logon, Digital Signature, Web Authentication, loyalty/payment and other applications that utilize contactless smart cards.


Combined with Athena’s contactless and dual interface smart cards and contactless smart cards, the ASEDrive IIIe CL provides read/write performance and flash upgradeability.

All ASEDrive readers are supported by device drivers for Windows XP, Vista, Server 2003/8, Mac OSX, and Linux. The ASEDrive IIIe CL is available for delivery in November 2008. [end] 

The NFC Forum has announced that Intel Corporation has upgraded its membership from Principal to Sponsor, the highest level of membership in the organization.

As a Sponsor member, Intel will hold a seat on the NFC Forum Board of Directors, as well designate individuals to run for Forum leadership positions and appoint one voting representative to all NFC Forum Committees and Working Groups.

HID Global announced that the company and its parent, ASSA ABLOY, have been notified by the United States Patent Office that their patent, US 2008/0163361, titled “Method and Apparatus for Making a Decision on a Card,” has been allowed and will issue shortly.

CloudPassage has launched Halo NetSec, a firewall, two-factor authentication product that enables access to virtual servers in the public cloud.

As reported by TechWorld, Halo NetSec covers security needs for services from infrastructure providers, such as Amazon Web Services or Rackspace. Administrators can set up defense parameters without having access to an actual network.
