Ten agencies meet deadline, overall 29% of credentials issues

U.S. government agencies have issued more than 1.5 million HSPD-12 compliant credentials, according to the White House Office of Management and Budget. This is 29% of the total 5.58 million expected to be issued to government employees.

And while many agencies didn’t meet implementation plans ten did, including the Department of Education, Environmental and Protection Agency, the Department of Defense, Housing and Urban Development, Department of Labor, NASA, National Science Foundation, OMB, Social Security Administration and the Department of Treasury. Also, the GSA, Small Business Administration and USAID have processes in place to issue credentials to all new employees.


For the agencies that didn’t achieving the target, OMB is working with these agencies and has requested that they submit updated plans by November 17 with milestones for how they intend to meet the requirements of HSPD-12 as soon as possible.

The focus over the coming year will be on completing the background investigations and issuance of credentials as part of the hiring process and completing issuance of credentials, as well as implementing plans for using the credentials. [end] 

Personal information of 9,000 current and prospective students was inadvertently posted online by Valencia College in Orlando. The school has apologized for the mistake.

The information included the students’ names, addresses, dates of birth and student ID numbers but not their Social Security numbers or financial information.
