Yeon secures IP rights in Europe and Taiwan

Yeon Technology, a Taiwan-based RFID developer, has announced it has secured design protection for four of its RFID devices in the European Union. Additionally, it has received three patents in Taiwan for technology related to its UHF antenna designs.

Yeon Technology is a subsidiary of the YFY Group, a conglomerate of Asian businesses that began with the packaging manufacturer Yuen Foong Yu Paper Manufacturing. The RFID business was founded in 2006, and has in the past claimed some breakthroughs in the development of low-cost, RFID-enabled packaging materials. [end] 

A new survey from advertising firm CBS Outdoor shows that mobile marketing is gaining in popularity in Europe, with QR codes leading the pack.

Out of 9,000 European consumers surveyed, 40% said that they are aware of QR codes, with 13% having scanned a QR-enabled advertisement at least once. By comparison, only 13% of respondents are aware of augmented reality advertising, and 5% knew of NFC ads. Only 4% and 1.4% reported using the latter two technologies, respectively.

Acer is planning to launch NFC-enabled smart phones for mobile banking and contactless payments, according to Taiwan News.

Acer product manager Vincent Chen told TN that the new phones will likely run on Windows 8, which is expected to support NFC technology. According to Chen, the roll out will depend on how quickly the five major mobile operators in Taiwan can agree upon a contactless mobile payments platform.
