BIO-key obtains new patent

Monday, December 8, 2008

BIO-key International, a developer of biometric systems, has announced that they have been awarded a patent for the company’s match template protection within a biometric security system from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The new patent is designed to enable biometric systems to distinguish between an actual authentication sample rather than an enrollment template that could be obtained by hacking a biometric system.

The new software would add a new layer of protection of user’s stored biometric data by rendering it useless if acquired by a fraudster. Further, BIO-key expects their new software to be both a time and money saver for companies employing it as it would remove the entire encryption process from biometric enrollment. [end]
