M/A-COM develops forklift solution

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

M/A-COM Technology Solutions, a provider of RFID and microwave-based products, has announced a new RFID-enabled forklift system. The system enables greater efficiency throughout a supply chain by automatically recording the exact storage location of an RFID-tagged pallet during handling and slotting processes.

The system deploys an acoustic sensor and broad-beam antenna to locate and identify RFID tags after pallets have been loaded onto the forklift. The system then identifies a pallet storage location, via a narrow-beam antenna and laser-height sensor, and controller logic systems to confirm that the specific pallet has been picked up or dropped off at that location. Slotting transactions are fed to the enterprise system via WiFi connectivity.

The M/A-COM system makes use of an Impinj Speedwa reader equipped with forklift firmware. New or existing forklifts can be retrofitted to work with the system. [end]

Asco has implemented an RFID solution developed and installed by Zetes-RFIDea for prompt tracking and to improve management of its machining supports.

The company develops, produces and processes high-precision steel and titanium components for the aircraft industry. The real-time updating solution will further assist in reducing the number of lost assets and enable personnel to quickly respond to audit requests.
