Cross Match CEO elected to IBIA

Jim Grau, president and CEO of biometrics developer Cross Match Technologies, has been elected to the board of directors for the International Biometric Industry Association (IBIA). The IBIA is a non-profit organization comprised of other industry leaders set on developing public policy for biometrics as well as educating the public on biometrics use in identification verification.

Additional goals for the IBIA include pushing the acceptance of biometric technology world-wide and helping create standards as they are an official registration authority for the International Organization for Standardization. Cross Match has been a member of IBIA since 2006. [end] 

The International Biometric and Identification Association released a paper that proposes best practices for use of facial recognition in consumer applications.

While the new consumer and commercial applications of face detection and face recognition technologies – such as social media and digital signage – can be positive and beneficial to consumers, they must be deployed with utmost sensitivity to the privacy of the consumer and general public, according to IBIA and Joseph Atick. Atick is one of the original inventors of face recognition technology and is vice chairman at the IBIA.

Smart Identity Devices, a developer of smart cards, biometric solutions and various information technology, has announced that with its partner Cross Match Technologies the two have been certified as a supplier of biometric devices for use in India’s Unique Identification (UID) program.

Marc Kekicheff, Visa’s senior business leader of chip innovation, has been re-elected chairman of GlobalPlatform, the group that standardizes the management of secure chip technology. Uwe Wittig, group vice president, payment division for Giesecke & Devrient, will remain the organization’s vice chair. In addition, Yves Moulart, director of development and innovation for STMicroelectronics, will remain secretary/treasurer.
