BlueStar acquires European distribution firm

BlueStar, a distributor of RFID and other technology solutions has announced the acquisition of the Swedish firm ADC Nordic, a distributor of AutoID, Point-of-Sale, mobile data management, and RFID products. The acquisition is part of the Hebron, Ky., based BlueStar’s efforts to expand the global reach of its distribution network.


ADC Nordic offers a range hardware, repair services, software solutions and marketing support for dealers, system integrators, and IT consultants. Its purchase gives BlueStar established market penetration in these areas in the Scandinavian and Baltic regions. A spokesperson for BlueStar indicated that in deference to the established relationships ADC Nordic has in these regions, all sales representatives, along with the rest of the Swedish company’s staff, will remain in place.

ADC Nordic’s new ownership will mean an increased product and service line for the company. BlueStar has also indicated it plans to invest in additional marketing, sales and inventory levels to increase customer service to the region. [end] 

A new survey from advertising firm CBS Outdoor shows that mobile marketing is gaining in popularity in Europe, with QR codes leading the pack.

Out of 9,000 European consumers surveyed, 40% said that they are aware of QR codes, with 13% having scanned a QR-enabled advertisement at least once. By comparison, only 13% of respondents are aware of augmented reality advertising, and 5% knew of NFC ads. Only 4% and 1.4% reported using the latter two technologies, respectively.

UK-regional bus group Bluestar has launched a new transit card for discounted weekly and monthly travel on its network, according to Southern Daily Echo.

The new card enables cashless fare for any service on the Bluestar Network in Southampton, Eastleigh and Winchester. It also supports travel on Wilts & Dorset buses and Southern Vectis on the Isle of Wight, both of which are owned and operated by Go-Ahead Group.

Google has acquired payments technology company TxVia, Google Wallet chief Osama Bedier announced on the company’s blog.

According to Bedier, the acquisition will improve Google Wallet’s payments capabilities and help to “accelerate innovation towards our full Google Wallet vision.”
